Saint Mark’s Burlington "Through the Years"

1751 The first worship services of the Church of England were conducted in the precinct of Woburn, that was to become Burlington, by clergy from Cambridge and Boston

1867 Trinity Church, Woburn was organized to provide the worship of the Episcopal Church to the area.

1912 Burlington became a separate town.

1958 Worship services in Burlington began in the American Legion Hall under the leadership of the Rev. Myron Bloy.

1960 The Rev. Clifford Chadwick appointed part-time Vicar of the Mission of St. Mark. An octagonal portable sanctuary was erected on the church site.

1961 The vicarage was built on the far end of the church lot.

1962 The Rev. Ralph Tucker became the first full-time Vicar.

1963 The Education building, containing offices and classrooms, was added adjacent to the vicarage.

1969 The Rev. Kenneth L. Ornell became Vicar.

1971 The present church building was dedicated by the Rt. Rev. John Burgess, Bishop of Mass.

1975 The Rev. William F. Seaward was appointed Vicar of St. Mark’s Church

1978 St. Mark’s Church was accepted as a Parish at the Diocesan Convention. The Rev. William F. Seaward elected as the first Rector.

1978 Wilmington Episcopal Chapel was formed from the former Congregational Church and it was a mission of St. Mark’s Church.

1983 St. Mark’s Church consecrated by the Rev. Jonathan Siyachitema, Bishop of Lundi, Zimbabwe.

1985 The Wilmington Chapel, now St. Elizabeth’s, became an autonomous mission of the Diocese of Massachusetts.

1992 The Rev. Carol M. Flett called to be Rector of St. Mark’s.
