Welcome to St. Mark's Episcopal Church

St. Mark's is a multigenerational parish in which we celebrate God, enjoy one another, and serve our neighbors. Our mission is to create a place of safety and support in which all God's people are given the opportunity to be transformed, as we explore our faith and our call to service.

Welcome to Young Adult Spirituality!!

This website is dedicated to people in their 20’s and early 30’s who are looking to add something to their lives. We’re not here to convert you or make you join a cult. We’re simply here to give you a place to talk about where you are in your life and where you would like to go.

First of all, what does it mean to be a “young adult” in 2009? Recently Abby Wilner coined the term “quarterlife crisis” in her books, Quarterlife Crisis and Quarterlife Companion. She defines this idea as “essentially a period of anxiety, uncertainty and inner turmoil that often accompanies the transition to adulthood.” Having just survived my own quarter life crisis I know this isn’t just a myth. For many of us, we leave college or grad school only to find ourselves lost in the world of employment. Perhaps we move to a new city or we’re working multiple jobs to pay off student loans. Or we miss the home of our childhood and can’t find a new one to replace it. And these are just a few of the stresses that young adults are facing today. Contrary to what others may believe, the quarter-life crisis maybe just as bad, if not worse, than the mid-life crisis.

So why a spirituality group? As a group we commit ourselves to having an open and safe place for all to have a voice. This is not only a practical rule but a spiritual one as well. When we open ourselves to listen and be listened we experience a taste of the supernatural. When was the last time you felt that someone was actually hearing you? We’re often so busy we don’t have time to hear what our peers are trying to say. This group also allows us to be present with people of all different religions and faiths. All are welcome!!

We meet every two weeks at a local restaurant or bar for a meal and conversation.

Conversation Topics:

When do you feel happy? What are you doing, who are you with?
What do you love/hate about your job? Is this a job you wish to stay in long-term?
What was your religious upbringing? How does it affect the way you view religion now?
What are the obstacles you are facing right now? What is causing them? What is one step you could take to overcome them?
Who are the important people in your life? How would you describe your relationship with them?
What are your favorite things to do: movies, tv, sports?
